The Programme is addressed to teachers and specialists of various scientific fields who work or are going to work in general schools of Primary and Secondary Education, in special schools and in institutions/rehabilitation centres for people with blindness.

In order to teach Braille to a visually impaired student, a teacher needs the knowledge and skills to be able to :a) read and write Braille and b) teach Braille to visually impaired students.

This objective is different from simply learning to read and write braille and is not covered by any other programme in the country at the moment. The main objective of this programme is to acquire basic knowledge for teaching Braille to students with visual disabilities.

The aim of the programme is for the participants to acquire knowledge regarding the reading and writing of Braille, which they will successfully use in the education and support of students with blindness in general and special schools of primary and secondary education [Kindergarten, Primary School, Junior High School, High School, Vocational High School (TEE), School Units of Special Education (SMEA) and Training Workshops (ΕΕΕΚ)], as well as in institutions/rehabilitation centres for people with blindness.

Certificates of proficiency in Braille are issued only by a) the Center for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind (KEAT), b) the Department of Educational and Social Policy of the University of Macedonia in the field of education for people with disabilities, which certifies the successful attendance of the course "Braille Learning Lab", c) by the Pedagogical Department of Special Education of the University of Thessaly, which certifies the successful attendance of the course "Laboratory of writing and reading in Braille code".

In practice, this programme is mainly addressed to those who already have a certification in Braille and wish to acquire knowledge at a higher level, mainly concerning the teaching of Braille and assessment issues.
